Wheeeeew. The Pirates put together one of those teaser rallies in the 9th inning, but ultimately Brandon Morrow was able to shut things down for the Cubs’ second win in this series.
Thanks to some suspect defense and Elias Diaz getting a little home run revenge, the Cubs went down 3-0 almost immediately in this one, but Jon Lester managed to make it through six innings allowing just one more run, and the Cubs ultimately came back to win.
Three Cubs blasts (Ben Zobrist, Anthony Rizzo, and Kyle Schwarber) did most of the damage, with all the other starters except Addison Russell picking up at least one hit. That includes Jon Lester, who had TWO hits and drove in a run!
Willson Contreras got hit twice in this one, and if anyone other than Anthony Rizzo was going to wear one as a bit of retaliation, you figured it was gonna be Contreras. But that said, I’m not sure either pitch was actually intentional. We’ll see if anyone says anything after the game.
Cubs win, Cubs win, Cubs win.
