Given how well Alex Lange pitched yesterday, I thought I would open the Daily with the highlight reel from Myrtle Beach. Oddly, though, that highlight reel shows exactly zero Alex Lange pitches. So … you’re just going to have to take my word for it that Lange looked good in his five scoreless innings yesterday.
And instead, let’s talk about Christian Donahue.
It has been about three weeks since Christian Donahue became the regular second baseman for the South Bend Cubs. We didn’t know much about him at the time, so I find his .323/.368/.500 line in 66 trips to the plate particularly interesting. He doesn’t walk much (just 4 BB), but other than that I can’t really complain. He’s old for the level (23), but this is his first year in the system so I can’t even fairly call that a negative just yet. This left handed hitting infielder is simply playing good baseball right now.
Triple A: Iowa Cubs
Colorado Springs 13, Iowa 3
After four and a half innings the Cubs led 3-2. Let’s just pretend the game ended there.
Double A: Tennessee Smokies
Mobile 5, Tennessee 1
This game was scoreless through five and a half, but the Smokies bullpen had a rare bad day.
High A: Myrtle Beach Pelicans
Myrtle Beach 3, Winston-Salem 0
That’s two straight scoreless performances for Lange.
Low A: South Bend Cubs
South Bend 5, Great Lakes 3
The Cubs have won six of their last nine games.
