Hey, did you know that the draft is going on this week? Pretty cool, man. Pretty cool.
Ah, yes. The baseball game. The Cubs and Phillies did play one tonight, and outside of a nice tribute to Jake Arrieta, there wasn’t much of redeeming worth in this one. The bats were more or less silenced (especially with runners on base (again)), there were mistakes on the bases and on the field, and Kyle Hendricks had one of his worst outings in a good long while.
Hendricks’ command didn’t seem sharp all night, and it really came off the rails – especially for him – in the third inning, when he even walked in a run. Did you ever think that was even possible for Kyle Hendricks?
Hopefully it was just “one of those nights,” and not anything minor that he’s feeling in his arm or his hand or his legs or his core or whatever. I can brush aside a loss pretty easily. Nagging, borderline irrational concerns about Hendricks’ command (pretty critical for his success) are less easy to shake.
For tonight, though, I’m wiping the mental slate clean and moving on.
