After sending one in to orbit last night, Cubs first baseman Anthony Rizzo just hit his second homer in as many days, giving the Cubs 1-0 lead in the fourth:
According to Statcast, that homer left Rizzo’s bat at 109 MPH and traveled 418 feet, thanks to a solid 23-degree launch angle. It was also Rizzo’s tenth homer of the season and a pretty significant one for his career.
According to Jesse Rogers, that was Rizzo’s 175th homer as a Cub which ties him for the 13th most by a Cub all-time. Gordon Wittenmyer follows up by pointing out that he just passed Andre Dawson (and he’s now just barely behind Derek Lee). That is some good company, Mr. Rizzo. In all likelihood, he’ll be within the top ten before the end of the year.
The Cubs first baseman is now batting .254/.357/.451 on the year, with a 119 wRC+. Given where things started, that is one impressive slash line for the early parts of June. Keep it up.
