The Cubs have already won this series, but now they’re looking to put on the hurt. Here’s the batting order for game #3.
Chicago Cubs Lineup:
- Javy Baez, 2B
- Jason Heyward, RF
- Kris Bryant, 3B
- Anthony Rizzo, 1B
- Ian Happ, CF
- Kyle Schwarber, LF
- Addison Russell, SS
- Chris Gimenez, C
- Kyle Hendricks, P
Kris Bryant is no longer the leadoff man, but that doesn’t mean Joe Maddon is going back to the Ben Zobrist/Albert Almora plan for today’s finale. Instead, Maddon continues the strategy of rotating in whomever’s coldest to try and shake them loose, and right now, that’s Javy Baez.
Indeed, through eight June games (22 PAs), Baez has recorded just two hits, no walks, and eight strikeouts and his season slash line is down to just a 110 wRC+.
Today’s Pirates starter, Ivan Nova, isn’t particularly nice to right-handed hitters, but Baez has hit two homers off him in 10 chances through their careers. Maybe he’ll lead off the game with one today, eh?
Elsewhere, Jason Heyward continues batting second, #Brzzo returns to their spot in the heart of the order, your outfield is Albert-Almora-less, and Chris Gimenez is taking his turn behind the plate.
As usual, we’ll have your full Pre-Gamin’ closer to game time (1:20 CT).
