Chicago Cubs Lineup: Javy Baez Slides Down

Chicago Cubs

Tonight, the Chicago Cubs will begin a fairly big series against the Milwaukee Brewers and this is how they’ll line it up.

Chicago Cubs Lineup:

  1. Albert Almora Jr., CF
  2. Jason Heyward, RF
  3. Kris Bryant, 3B
  4. Anthony Rizzo, 1B
  5. Willson Contreras, C
  6. Kyle Schwarber, LF
  7. Javy Baez, 2B
  8. Addison Russell, SS
  9. Jose Quintana, P

Junior Guerra is starting for the Brewers tonight and he’s had pretty excellent results all season (2.83 ERA), despite peripherals that suggest he’s been about a full-run worse (3.74 FIP). And unlike some other pitchers who more routinely outperform their peripherals, Guerra has allowed a ton of hard contact this season (41.6%) and plenty of balls in the air (40.7%).

Also of note: he’s been brutal on righties, but lefties have gotten to him this year. So, basically, what I’m saying is Jason Heyward, Anthony Rizzo, and Kyle Schwarber might be your picks to go deep tonight. I’m especially optimistic about Schwarber’s chances, because a righty that allows this much hard contact in the air does not want to face him. That’s for sure.

In the meantime, Javy Baez slides down in the order after going through a bit of a dry spell … for a while now (he’s working on an 0-17 with 7Ks). So hopefully he can get going again, and maybe even make another push for the All-Star game – he’s currently in second place.

The Cubs have already won 7 of their 8 games against the Brewers this season, but I’d love if they’d embarrass them further. As usual, we’ll have your full Pre-Gamin’ closer to game time (7:10 CT).
