It was totally worth missing this in favor of Michael’s wedding, but I bet this was pretty awesome to see live.
With the Cubs up a run late on the Cardinals, and the dude who’s been the best reliever in baseball the last few weeks on the mound, Jason Heyward got around on a 99 mph fastball (in St. Louis, for a bonus bit of joy) and gave the Cubs a much more comfortable lead:

103.9 mph off the bat, and 410 feet. Heyward doesn’t hit too many like that, so it sure is fun to see when it happens.
It was also fun to see Heyward’s salute back after he’d seemingly tucked that away (some mistaken salutes last year might have left him feeling a little chastened). Thanks for your service, ball. Farewell on your journey into the unknown.
The homer was just Heyward’s 4th this year, but he continues to hit reasonably well overall (.269/.332/.418, 103 wRC+).
