This series is a lost cause, but an individual day’s game never is. Well, I mean, until the opposing pitcher hits a grand slam.
That is to say, even as the Cubs will leave this series having stunk no matter what happens today, they can still bank an all-important win this afternoon, and also maybe help themselves mentally turn the page as they head out West for a tough four-game series against the Dodgers.
Mike Montgomery moves up a day to take Tyler Chatwood’s turn (baby on the way), and hopefully he’s no worse for the shifted rotation. The Cubs could obviously use a nice, good, long outing.
And the bats, man. They could use some hits. Lots of hits. So many hits. All the hits.
