Ah. That felt good. It was worth staying up until nearly 2 am my time. Ask me if I still feel that way when I’m up in four hours.
Jon Lester was solid again tonight, turning things over to the bullpen after 82 pitches and 5.0 innings, staked to a healthy lead that had just developed in the top of the 6th. Although the Dodgers netted a couple late runs – and we got nervous, because we’d so recently felt the sting of an insurmountable lead being blown – the bullpen held it up.
The Cubs had hits up and down the lineup – another quietly excellent great from Ben Zobrist, by the way – but they actually didn’t cash in nearly as many time as they could have, despite the score. I’m not complaining about 9 runs, of course. I’m just saying it could have been many more because they were smacking the ball so well.
