On a very nice play by fill-in third baseman David Bote last night, the Cubs cut down Justin Turner at the plate. Being that Turner was way inside the baseline and bearing down on Willson Contreras with his slide, I was unsurprised to see a very firm tag applied by the Cubs’ catcher.
Turner, apparently, was not pleased:

What are you doing, guy? You went way inside the baseline, the catcher set up very properly to give you a lane, you slide right into the catcher, and he tagged you hard while protecting himself. How could you possibly be the one who is upset?
I love Contreras’s reaction – very casual and conversational. Kudos to him for keeping things light and chatty, and not letting Turner’s bizarre grumblings get him heated.
