Well, it wouldn’t have been this series if the final game wasn’t just as high-scoring and crazy as the first two. The Cubs wound up putting up another huge run total – 11 runs this time – and they needed every last one of them.
The Twins scored first in this one for the third time this series, but the Cubs took the lead on a three-run homer by Jon Lester. Naturally. The Cubs went on to score eight in that second inning, eventually growing the lead to 9-1. There were huge days up and down the lineup.
But, like the Cubs yesterday, the pesky Twins just kept chipping away and coming back, particularly after Jon Lester exited, and then hung a five-spot on Dillon Maples with two outs in the 8th. That made it a one-run game, and Brandon Morrow had to come in to get the final out in that frame.
The Twins went on to put the tying run on second base in the 9th, and all butt cheeks were in full on clench mode. But Morrow nailed it down, and all the came before was just silly excitement.
Cubs win! Cubs sweep!
