The Cubs weren’t able to tie this game until the fifth inning and didn’t take their first lead until the seventh, but Kyle Schwarber made sure to give them some breathing room with his 17th homer of the season in the eighth:

As I said, that was Schwarber’s 17th homer this year (t-19th in MLB) and second hit of the day. It traveled 275 feet and was, according to Statcast, a “barrel” coming off the bat at 103 MPH and a perfect 25 degrees.
There’s also this:
#Cubs home run leaders – last 365 days
(regular season only)35 Kyle Schwarber (one today)
29 Javier Báez
25 Anthony Rizzo
22 Ian Happ
22 Kris Bryant— Christopher Kamka (@ckamka) July 3, 2018
Schwarber is now slashing .247/.374/.502 this season, good for a 131 wRC+ (or about what Anthony Rizzo produced in all of 2017). He leads the Cubs with 17 home runs. Let’s see if they can hang on for the win.
