TAKE THAT, CUBS FARM SYSTEM HATERS!!!
Today, out on rehab assignment as he recovers from his shoulder injury, Kris Bryant joined the Cubs’ AA affiliate Tennessee Smokies. Presumably, he’ll be starting at third base tonight somewhere in the middle of the lineup, and the Cubs will suddenly have an incredible minor league trade chip! Gonna GET that Trade Deadline middle reliever, baby …
It’s undetermined – or, at least, unannounced – how long Bryant’s stay with the Smokies will be, but if it’s just a day or two, there’s a chance he could still join the big league team for the very end of their series against the Giants, which starts tonight. It may very well depend on how Bryant feels tonight swinging the bat, how he’s seeing the ball, and how the shoulder feels tomorrow morning.
Bryant spoke with the media in Knoxville before the game, which is a pretty cool view into what it’s like when an MLB superstar comes back to one of his old haunts:

Ah, memories of a time when he was just a kid who hit tons of bombs, but could never hit a triple:
Are you coming the game tonight? Expect to see this guy ⬇️⬇️ pic.twitter.com/JDjg3hIhCz
