Chicago Cubs Lineup: Bryzzo Returns, Caratini Catches, Heyward Covers Center

Chicago Cubs

The Chicago Cubs have yet another rubber match this afternoon, but they’re inching closer to full strength. Here’s their lineup … with KRIS BRYANT!

Chicago Cubs Lineup:

  1. Ben Zobrist, RF
  2. Jason Heyward, CF
  3. Kris Bryant, 3B
  4. Anthony Rizzo, 1B
  5. Javy Baez, 2B
  6. Kyle Schwarber, LF
  7. Addison Russell, SS
  8. Victor Caratini, C
  9. Mike Montgomery, P

REJOICE! Kris Bryant has returned to the lineup and is bringing his .280/.383/.481 slash line. He also returns to face Johnny Cueto, which hasn’t been particularly fun for anyone this season (1.95 ERA, 3.56 FIP), but has been a little easier for right-handers than lefties. Then again, he’s basically split neutral for his career, so maybe everyone’s got a shot.

With today’s day game following last night’s night game, you won’t be surprised to find Victor Caratini behind the plate instead of Willson Contreras. You also won’t be surprised to see Anthony Rizzo back in the lineup after a day off yesterday. Hopefully, some extra rest has done him wonders and he/Bryant can go back to making some more souvenirs for Bryzzo Co.

All-Star Javy Baez bats fifth tonight, playing second base, and Addison Russell joins him up the middle. As usual, we’ll have more on Mike Montgomery and the pitching matchups in our Pre-Gamin’ post closer to game time (2:45 CT). Until then, go Cubs. And welcome back, Bryant!
