I ain’t mad at you, James Norwood.
Although the youngster making his big league debut got walked off on in the 13th inning, he had pitched a very nice 12th, and then was in the “you’ve gotta take it from here” position. Buster Posey got him.
The Giants came out swinging in the first, and Mike Montgomery couldn’t miss the meat of their bats (and also couldn’t field a comebacker that would have erased three of the runs that ultimately scored). Those four first inning runs were all the Giants got until that decisive 13th inning. Not bad work there from the pitching staff.
To their credit, the Cubs held the line and also battled back after that first inning, tying the game on three homers (Jason Heyward, Kris Bryant, and Javy Baez), but then they couldn’t score after the 7th.
I’d be more annoyed if the Giants weren’t kinda invincible at the series level at home (they haven’t loss any of their last 12(!) home series). The Cubs took a game. Move on.
