DAVID BOTE Saves at Least Two Runs with This Inning-Ending Diving Play!

Chicago Cubs

El Mago, who?

David Bote was called up to the big league Cubs earlier today, after Kris Bryant was placed on the disabled list, and was immediately thrust into the starting lineup in place of an also injured Javier Baez. And while Bote will never fill Baez’s shoes defensively, he sure made one HELL of an important play.

Despite striking out two of the first three batters he faced in the top of the second inning, Cubs starter Tyler Chatwood found himself with the bases loaded after a single and two walks (including one to the pitcher). But with David Peralta at the plate and a 1-1 count, David Bote made an excellent diving stop to bail out his pitcher:

That was absolutely beautiful and easily saved at least two runs, given how many outs there were, let alone how many more runs could’ve crossed the plate as the inning continued.

David Bote has made such a good impression in his uneven time up with the Cubs. He’s extremely fun to watch.
