The imminent Cole Hamels trade understandably diverted the lion’s share of attention last night, I want to make sure to give appropriate love to one of the most enjoyable walk-offs in recent memory.
After David Bote shocked us all by tying the game in the 9th (more on Bote soon), Anthony Rizzo blew us away by ending the dang thing two pitches later. And he didn’t just walk things off, he did it by hitting one so hard into the wind that it broke his own Statcast record:

Feels like I haven’t seen a more no doubt homer hit by any Cub other than Kyle Schwarber or Javy Baez in a long time. And it also feels like I haven’t seen an Anthony Rizzo homer in a long time (that part’s objectively true – it was his first homer in over a month).
