The last time Luke Weaver pitched was at Wrigley Field and he was chased off the mound after just 4.o IP, because the Cubs came out swinging: 7H, 5BBs, 3ER.
Anthony Rizzo led off that game with a triple and followed it up with two walks, but Jason Heyward, Ben Zobrist, and Javy Baez all each had nice games against Weaver, and he’ll see all of them tonight. Reminder, Weaver has some pretty significant lefty/righty splits, so you might also want to keep an eye on Kyle Schwarber tonight, who could do some serious damage.
Meanwhile, Mike Montgomery is taking the mound for the Cubs and is looking to build off an impressive last outing (also against St. Louis) at Wrigley Field, which reminded us more of his upside than some of the starts prior. He lasted 6.0 innings in that one, allowing just five hits and one earned run with two walks and three strikeouts. A repeat performance would be very welcomed. Let’s go, Cubs.
