Hi. I, Brett Taylor, am 36 years old and do not have any tattoos.
I never thought I would get one, either. I have no problem with tattoos – they are frequently quite badass. I just never thought I would care about anything so unquestionably permanently that I new, beyond the shadow of a doubt, that I would have no regrets. But after writing about my experience with anxiety issues, our wonderful Littlest Girl with special needs, and about the impermanence of the things in life that weigh us down, I started to get the kernel of an idea for what I’d want if I ever had the stones to do it.
And then it hit me … what if I used the Blogathon as a spur to just go ahead and do it? What if we could raise a little more money for Make-A-Wish, and that pushed me over the edge? When a friend sent me a recommendation on a place, and it just so happens to be right next to Graceland Cemetery, which was the very place I realized I needed to get some help?
So I’m going to do it. If we can get to $18,000 by 7pm tonight – that’s THREE wishes for Make-A-Wish! – I will get that tattoo live tonight. The Blogathon fundraiser page for Make-A-Wish is right here.
I am very nervous, but I am happy to make this offer. *Breathes deeply, presses publish.*
UPDATE: Oh my goodness. This is real:
Holy. Wow. You folks pushed the donations to Make-A-Wish up over $18,000 – that's THREE WISHES for kids and their families! – in just 12 minutes after my offer. I love you so much for that. And now I'm terrified. It's really happening. https://t.co/mD5D2CoKCE pic.twitter.com/UCgVjzIXfN
