David Bote Keeps Crushing the Ball, and Also Made Two Fantastic Plays Last Night! (VIDEOS)

Chicago Cubs

David Bote is currently hitting .327/.422/.519 in his 64 big league plate appearances. That 149 wRC+ is better than any season of Kris Bryant’s, including his 2016 MVP campaign (148). So … [*chanting wildly and foaming at the mouth*] MVP! MVP! EMMM VEEE PEEEEEEE!!!!!!

I kid, of course, as no one would project Bote to continue to be quite that hot at the plate. His .395 BABIP will come down … though it’s worth pointing out that, in his time in the big leagues, literally the only batter who has hit the ball harder is Aaron Judge:

Still, it is not inaccurate to say that, while he’s been in the big leagues, Bote has been the best hitter on the Cubs. What a wild thing that is. But it’s true!

He also has been flashing the glove routinely, making fantastic plays at both second base and third base, and he showed it again in the 4th inning last night:

And then he did it again in the 9th! This one may have been even more impressive, and I’m not sure Addison Russell is in a position to make this play if Bote doesn’t cut him off:

Ride the wave, David Bote. You worked your butt off to become a relevant prospect last year after being viewed as an organizational guy, and now you’re crushing it in the big leagues. Whatever happens next, it’s already been a fantastic story.

Also, he’s been worth 0.9 WAR already this year, which is a 6+ WAR rate for the time he’s been in the big leagues. That’s about a win more than Juan Soto projects to have with the Nationals over a full season’s worth of games. I know you can’t actually project like that, but, hey, we’re just having some fun right now.
