I’ll just tell you right up front that I don’t know that I buy the Cubs as being seriously ready to make a compelling offer on Matt Harvey unless the Reds are giving him away, but here’s this:
sources: brewers and cubs are among main teams in mix for matt Harvey. (not likely braves, I am told).

Keep in mind, the Brewers have LONG been in on Harvey, so it would behoove both the Reds and the Cubs for it to be out there that – oh no! – the Cubs are in, too. This could simply be the Reds trying to squeeze just a tiny bit more out of the Brewers.
But let’s say this is legit. Presumably, the idea would be to put a semi-rejuvenated Harvey in the rotation, and push Mike Montgomery back to the bullpen (plausibly helping both spots). It’s not the worst plan in the world, since Harvey has, at times, looked like he can be a very solid 4/5. Basically, outside of one disaster start, Harvey has given the Reds a passable outing each time he’s taken the ball.
We have to be honest here and note that Harvey was the subject of various off-the-field stories while in New York, and I’m not sure how that would play in a similar city like Chicago. Maybe it’s not a concern at all – and I can’t fathom this front office would bring him in if they had any worries.
So, I guess we’ll see. I really doubt this has any legit chance of getting off the ground.
UPDATE: Jerry Crasnick is usually rather plugged in, so this added layer of confirmation is worth noting:
Also hearing the #Brewers and #Cubs as two teams talking to the #Reds about Harvey. One MLB exec says Milwaukee would be an excellent fit for Harvey, who has thrived in a lower-profile environment in Cincinnati. https://t.co/3z07EuLNzV
