Chicago Cubs Lineup: Every Bote In!

Chicago Cubs

The Cubs are starting a pretty winnable, four-game home series tonight against the Padres, and Mike Montgomery gets the ball in game one. Here’s the rest of the lineup.

Chicago Cubs Lineup:

  1. Anthony Rizzo, 1B
  2. Albert Almora Jr., CF
  3. Jason Heyward, RF
  4. Javy Baez, 2B
  5. Willson Contreras, C
  6. Ian Happ, LF
  7. Addison Russell, SS
  8. Mike Montgomery, P
  9. David Bote, 3B

Although Kris Bryant could come back quickly (as soon as he feels better, that is), the Cubs march on without him for yet another game. Today, David Bote re-enters the lineup as his replacement, covering third base yet again. And you’ll never guess what? He’s been hot lately.

Since July 10, Bote has eight hits – including two doubles and a homer – in just 15 at-bats. He’s also walked twice and struck out three times. For the season, he’s slashing .340/.431/.528 with a 13.8% walk rate, which is to say, he’s basically been Kris Bryant. It’s not fair to expect him to continue to be that productive, but it sure is nice to see so far.

Tonight’s starter for the Padres, Robbie Erlin is a reverse-split guy, so hopefully Anthony Rizzo and Jason Heyward can do a little extra damage tonight.

We’ll have your Pre-Gamin’ post up closer to game time (7:05 CT).
