Enhanced Box Score: Cubs 5, Padres 4 – August 3, 2018
WHEW. SO MUCH WHEW.
The Cubs survived multiple unnecessary close moments late in that game, right down to the final out. That came right after David Bote cut down the would-be tying run at the plate with a phenomenal play on a chopper. His contributions to this team continue to be tremendous, man.
All I can say:

Jose Quintana had a very good outing today. Sure, it came against a crummy offense, but I’d say the command looked very good, regardless of the opponent. As for the bullpen, it was a trying day, and they all seemed to get a shot at one point or another.
Javy Baez had another incredible day – homering, tripling, walking, making fantastic defensive plays, and ripping off another ridiculous slide. He is the most fun player to watch, and also one of the best. Also: if he doesn’t go for the triple with nobody out in the 8th, he very well may not have scored what ultimately became the winning run.
