After stringing together four solid starts in a row against the Dodgers, Tigers, Giants, and Cardinals, today’s starter, Jose Quintana, laid an egg in his second game against St. Louis his last time out (3.0 IP, 6H, 6ER) with more walks than strikeouts.
Sure, it’s tough to face the same team twice, and no, a .455 BABIP is not particularly fair, but a 38.4% hard-hit rate and 11.8% strikeout rate isn’t going to cut it. Just find your footing already, man. We need ya.
Meanwhile, Tyson Ross is starting for the Padres in this one and, as we’ve already discussed, he tends not to fare well against lefties … of which the Cubs lineup is full. Ross is coming off back-to-back 5.0 IP outings with a combined 6 earned runs. He’s been walking a ton of guys lately, so some patience might be prudent. Then again, he’s allowed a ton of hard contact this year, so … swing away? I don’t know. Just do the offense, please.
Game time is 1:20. Good luck.
