Javy Baez Was Too Courteous to Enjoy His New Career High in Homers (VIDEO)
The Cubs are still in first place, so there’s that, but if you still need a pick-me-up on a day that likely features you feeling annoyed about the Cubs’ performance since the All-Star break, I submit the following.
Javy Baez cracked his 24th homer of the year yesterday – a new career-high for him – but he wasn’t able to watch it fly, because he also cracked Padres catcher Austin Hedges:

Thanks to the low pitch – which Javy was *ON* – it was a bit wilder backswing than usual for Baez, evoking the swings of his younger days. That took his bat around and into Hedges’ hand, and Baez immediately turned to check on the catcher. Think he knew that ball was gone, so he figured he had plenty of time to be nice instead of running out of the box? Or is he just that nice that he couldn’t help himself either way? Whichever answer you choose is just fine by me.
Javy Baez: too nice to enjoy his own career-record-setting bombs.
