Enhanced Box Score: Cubs 5, Royals 0 – August 7, 2018
I HAVE FIGURED OUT THE ISSUE WITH THE CUBS’ STARTING PITCHING! They were not facing the Royals enough.
For the second night in a row – incredible, I know! – the Cubs starting pitcher went six innings. This time, it was Mike Montgomery facing his old organization, and pitching six scoreless. It’s harder to judge against that woeful lineup, but he sure seemed to look sharp.
The bullpen also did it’s job well in the final three innings, and there wasn’t a whole lot of drama in this one.
Offensively, the Cubs once again got huge contributions from David Bote, who continues to hit the ball harder than anyone. Thanks to his triple in the first inning, the Cubs got their lead early in this one, and it became a pretty chill, normal win against a crummy team. I like that.
