Chicago Cubs Lineup: Is This the Best Offensive Group Right Now?

Chicago Cubs

Today, the Chicago Cubs are beginning a tough three-game series against the Washington Nationals at Wrigley Field. Here’s the lineup for game 1.

Chicago Cubs Lineup:

  1. Anthony Rizzo, 1B
  2. Javy Baez, 2B
  3. Ben Zobrist, RF
  4. Jason Heyward, CF
  5. David Bote, 3B
  6. Kyle Schwarber, Guitar
  7. Willson Contreras, Drums
  8. Kyle Hendricks, Synth
  9. Addison Russell, SS

Given the absence of Kris Bryant and the way Albert Almora (poorly), Ian Happ (poorly), David Bote (well), and Ben Zobrist (well) have all been swinging the bat lately, I tend to think this is probably the Cubs best offensive lineup right now.

Obviously, this comes at the expense of better defense (Almora is better than Heyward in center, Heyward is better than everyone in right), but Happ (55 wRC+) and Almora (23 wRC+) have been pretty useless since the break, so … yeah. With Kyle Schwarber rounding out the outfield, this is the group you have to role with.

Of note: The Nationals starter today, Jeremy Hellickson, doesn’t really have significant splits, and he’s not a rookie (thank god), so maybe the Cubs will be able to get their engines going again.

It’s Russell and Baez up the middle, and Contreras behind the plate. As usual, we’ll have your full Pre-Gamin’ closer to game time (1:20 CT).
