Although he did allow a run in the first inning, things could have been much worse for Kyle Hendricks if David Bote hadn’t been able to track down a very high pop down the line by Bryce Harper:

That’s such a tough ball to track going backwards, especially as the spin starts to take it back toward the field of play. Nicely done by Bote.
Given the alignment, either Bote makes that catch, or it falls in for a hit. At a minimum, then, the bases are loaded with one out for Juan Soto (who went on to single), and things could have really gotten out of hand.
