Michael and I are currently on our way to watch Yu Darvish at South Bend, but here’s the lineup for today’s Cubs game against the Pirates.
Chicago Cubs Lineup:
- Tommy La Stella, 2B
- Ben Zobrist, RF
- Javy Baez, SS
- Anthony Rizzo, 1B
- Ian Happ, CF
- Kyle Schwarber, LF
- Willson Contreras, C
- Jose Quintana, P
- David Bote, 3B
With Anthony Rizzo (who is 8-for-16 with a pair of homers against Pirates starter Jameson Taillon) sliding down and settling into the cleanup spot, the task of replacing the Greatest Leadoff Hitter of All-Time falls to Tommy La Stella. No pressure, Tommy.
Left-handed hitters are hitting .273 with a .349 on-base percentage against Taillon, so the Cubs are set to start the game with lefties in five of the first six spots in the order. The only righty breaking up the mix is Javier Baez, who is 9-for-13 with four doubles and two homers against Taillon. That’s a .692 average and 1.462 slugging percentage in a 13 at-bat sample.
Otherwise, right-handed batters own a .265 wOBA when facing Taillon this season, so it makes sense to see Willson Contreras and David Bote in the bottom third or the order. Addison Russell (0-for-10, five strikeouts) is sitting this one out.
As usual, we’ll have your full Pre-Gamin’ closer to game time (12:35 CT).
