#Cubs Bryant to take BP on the field today. That's a good sign

According to multiple reports on twitter, injured Cubs third baseman Kris Bryant (shoulder) is expected to take regular batting practice on the field today. Bryant has made his way back slowly over the past few weeks, but hadn’t quite progressed to the level of regular, on-field batting practice – just swings off the tee and in the cage. The goal was to swing with little to *no* pain whatsoever, and it seems, until now, we weren’t quite there. But now, we are … so, you know, WOO HOO!
I tend to believe that Joe Maddon’s comments from this morning (re: no finish line/timetable for the return yet) remain true, but if this BP session goes well, you expect we’ll get a tentative schedule soon enough. I don’t like to speculate on what that might be, but I wouldn’t be surprised to see him play some Minor League rehab games before the month is over. I suppose we’ll cross that bridge when we get there.
For now, just know that Bryant is back taking swings on the field and, as Carrie Muskat puts it, “that’s a very good sign.”
Oh, and for anyone who feared that the Daniel Murphy acquisition was specifically a bad sign about Bryant, clearly, it’s not.
