Earlier today, when we learned that Kris Bryant had wrapped up a 10-min session of hitting off a tee, I wasn’t entire sure what to make of it. After all, Bryant had already been swinging off a tee and only yesterday worked his way up to full/regular batting practice. Was this a step backwards? I wondered.
Brett, however, chose to be optimistic, pointing out that it’s still good news to learn that he’s swinging at all – let alone the day after his first BP session – and guess what? He was right:
Bryant “close” to starting rehab assignment, Maddon said. looked very good during pregame work.

According to Joe Maddon, Kris Bryant is “close” to starting a rehab assignment. HECK.YES. That rocks. We were told that he could move fast as soon as he felt good enough to start full-on swinging and one day is pretty darn fast. The only unfortunate bit of news is that we just don’t know much more than that right now.
But you’ll forgive me for hoping that the Cubs send Bryant to the nearby South Bend Cubs out of convenience, instead of the probably more likely/appropriate/useful Double-A Tennessee Smokies or Triple-A Iowa Cubs. After all, South Bend is just a quick car ride away.
So we’ll leave that for right now, but we’ll be sure to update this post and/or let you know as soon more details on his assignment emerge.
