The Cubs first complete game of the year kick-started this series on Friday and then a David Bote walk-off home run continued it yesterday. I’m not sure if Jose Quintana has it in him to top the excitement of these first two games, but I’m very much here to watch.
And, hey, who knows? Maybe he can build off his last start (five innings, one earned run) and begin to get into form for the postseason. We’re probably a bit too far in to salvage his season as a whole, but as long as he’s hot at just the right time, that’s all that matters. With that said, the Reds’ 109 wRC+ against left-handers is actually the fourth highest in all of baseball.
We discussed Luis Castillo’s splits in the lineup post already, so for now I’ll just point out that he’s coming off a very good start against the Giants, wherein he allowed just 1 earned run over 6.2 IP with no walks and 9 Ks. Yeesh. Hopefully, we see nothing of the sort today.
If the Cubs win today, they win the series and can improve to a season-high 22 games over .500. Let’s see it.
