Well, well, well, it looks like we’ve got ourselves a good old fashioned pitching duel in the making, eh?
Mets’ ace (and serious 2018 NL Cy Young candidate) Jacob deGrom is making his way to Wrigley Field to face Cole Hamels and the Cubs. That should make for some good TV. And for those of you with faith in Hamels, that’s good, but know that for as dominant as he’s been since arriving in Chicago, deGrom has basically been that good (or better) all season long. This might just be one of the toughest Cubs matchups of the season and they’ll need another good one from Hamels to stick with it.
Of course, if they do manage to squeeze out a win, they’ll improve to a new-season-best seven consecutive Ws and 25 wins over .500. That sounds nice. I’d like to watch them accomplish both tonight, especially considering what that might do to their playoff odds:
Me: Hey, 6-game Winning Streak
Winning Streak: Hi, Michael
Me: Did you know, because of you, the Cubs odds of hitting the
playoffs have improved to 99.4%?!
Winning Streak: Whoa! No Way! What about the division?
Me: That's up to 90.8% according to @fangraphs
