Not a lot of run up before game number two, so I’ll have to make this Pre-Gamin’ brief.
After wrapping up last night’s game earlier today, the Chicago Cubs have won a new season-high seven consecutive contests – and they did so by “beating” Jacob deGrom and Noah Syndergaard and securing another series win. Nice. Now they get the much more beatable challenger, Jason Vargas, but they’ll do so without Kris Bryant, Addison Russell, Daniel Murphy, Javier Baez, or Jason Heyward in the lineup and with Alec Mills on the mound making just his second big league start. Of course, if it’s anything like his first big league start, the Cubs should be just fine (5.2 IP, 3H, 1ER, 1BB, 8Ks).
Starting opposite Mills, as I mentioned, is Jason Vargas and his 6.96 ERA. But while h is a beatable pitcher, Vargas hasn’t allowed more than two earned runs in three straight starts. Moreover, he just struck out eight Nationals without walking a single batter and allowing just 3 hits and no earned runs over 6.0 innings pitched. In other words, he’s still a Major Leaguer, yo.
But the Cubs will go for their 8th straight win nonetheless, and I’d just love to see them do it.
Must be so frustrating to be the #Cardinals right now – they just won 8 of their last 10 … at the exact same time the #Cubs won 7 straight. They're still 4.5 games out of first.
