I’m not going to lay any individual loss at the feet of the schedule, but I also am not going to fail to mention that this was the Cubs’ third game (plus two extra innings of another game) in three days in three different cities. It doesn’t explain everything. It’s a factor among many.
In any case, the pitching was great tonight – how good did Jose Quintana look? – and the bats put plenty of guys on base, but man, they EXTREMELY could not come through. A Javy Baez solo homer accounted for the only Cubs run in the game.
Ultimately, the Cubs left 10 on base and went 1-7 with runners in scoring position. That one hit was a Javy Baez single on which David Bote could not score. It was a bad day for offense.
