The good news is that the Cubs won last night against the Braves, which means they couldn’t lose ground in the standings. The less good news is that they didn’t add any additional space between themselves and their NL Central foes, either.
That’s because both the Cardinals and Brewers won yesterday, with the Cardinals blanking the Pirates and the Brewers winning in 11 over the Reds. That gave them both breathing room in the Wild Card standings, where they are now 2.0 and 2.5 games, respectively, clear of the Rockies. The Dodgers are 2.5 games back of the Brewers, and the Phillies are 3.0 games back. That’s who the Cubs play this weekend.
The Cardinals remain 4.5 games back of the Cubs (five in the loss column), and the Brewers remain 5.0 games back (six in the loss column). The Cardinals get to host the Reds this weekend, while the Brewers head to Washington.
