It’s another series win for the Cubs, who haven’t lost a series since late July. That’s good.
Speaking of good, Jon Lester made it work again today, letting his defense do some great things behind him, but also not putting on any free baserunners and striking out seven over his six innings of work. What an odd, but impressive year he is having.
Offensively, the Cubs managed to knock out Cy Young candidate Aaron Nola before he completed six innings, despite the fact that he absolutely dominated them the first time through the order. They haven’t always hit these stellar starters – that’s part of what makes them stellar – but they’ve done enough in the last week to beat the likes of Nola, Noah Syndergaard, Jacob deGrom, and Mike Foltynewicz.
Today, the Cubs did it with thump.
