As if tonight’s parade of errors, walks, wild pitches, passed balls, and all manner of miscues weren’t enough, the Cubs also had to suffer through the exit of the hottest hitter on their team.
Anthony Rizzo fouled a ball off of his foot in the third inning, and after playing a bit thereafter, was ultimately pulled from the game:
Right foot contusion for Rizzo, x-rays negative. Fouled a ball off his foot in the third inning.

Hopefully he’s going to be OK. Even when there’s not a break, a guy’s game can be impacted by a serious bruise, especially on his feet. It’s not as if tonight’s game was out of hand when Rizzo was removed, so he must have really been feeling it.
UPDATE: Rizzo plans to go tomorrow:
Rizzo told Maddon he should be fine for Wednesday

Again, that’s a good sign, though you just want to be sure a guy is pretty close to 100%, rather than letting something linger (and impact performance for much longer) if a day or two off would make it right.
