The primary goal for the Cubs this series remains to win just one game. They lost last night, but here’s the group that’ll try again tonight.
Chicago Cubs Lineup:
- Albert Almora Jr., CF
- Javy Baez, 2B
- Anthony Rizzo, 1B
- Kris Bryant, LF
- David Bote, 3B
- Ben Zobrist, RF
- Willson Contreras, C
- Mike Montgomery, P
- Addison Russell, SS
For the season, Brewers left-hander Wade Miley has actually had reverse splits, allowing lefties (.322 wOBA) to hit him a lot better than righties (.271 wOBA), but it hasn’t been a very large sample (11 starts). For his career, by contrast, almost the exact opposite is true, so Joe Maddon is playing the odds tonight.
What that means in practice is that left-hander Daniel Murphy is getting the night off, while Albert Almora gets the leadoff honors. Flanking him in the outfield, then, is Kris Bryant in left and Ben Zobrist in right. David Bote back fills at third base for Bryant and Javy Baez and Addison Russell resume the double-play combo we were used to seeing for most of the year.
Willson Contreras got the nod behind the plate tonight and altogether Anthony Rizzo is the only lefty in the lineup tonight (unless you count Montgomery). As usual, we’ll have your full Pre-Gamin’ closer to game time (7:10 CT).
