OK, so I know the Cubs lost yesterday, but let me just check to see if the Brewers also lost … oh. Right. The whole playing-each-other thing.
So the Brewers moved to within 4.0 games of the Cubs with yesterday’s win, but they’re still five games back in the loss column, and may ultimately still need to sweep the Cubs this week to have a chance to come back in the division. Just win one of these next two games, Cubs. I want to say things about the Magic Number again tomorrow morning.
The Cardinals, however, did lose to the Nationals yesterday when Bryce Harper played dramatic 9th inning hero (he’s already a Cub), leaving them 5.5 games back of the Cubs. They still have the second Wild Card spot by 1.0 game over the Dodgers (who were passed in the crazy NL West by the Rockies), by 2.0 games over the Diamondbacks, and 3.5 games over the Phillies.
The Cubs and Brewers play again tonight, while the Cardinals are again in Washington tonight.
