Pre-Gamin’: Cubs at Brewers (7:10 CT) – Lineups, Broadcast Info, Game Thread

Chicago Cubs

For his career, Brewers outfielder (and potential MVP runner-up to Javier Baez) Christian Yelich has just one hit, no walks, and two strikeouts in 9 plate appearances against Jose Quintana. He will not be in the lineup tonight. I’m not sure if I think that’s a good thing or a bad thing (I’m leaning good, despite Quintana’s past success), but let it be noted.

One guy who could do some damage in his absence, however, is Mike Moustakas. For his career, Moustakas is slashing .279/.340/.558 against Quintana and that’s in nearly 50 plate appearances (yeesh). Quintana has struck out Moustakas an impressive 12 times, but still … that’s not great overall. Hopefully, he doesn’t come up to bat a pivotal moment.

Starting opposite Quintana tonight is Jhoulys Chacin. As we discussed earlier, lefties have hit Chacin much better than righties this season, but the Cubs offense has struggled in general over the past two nights. On top of that, Chacin has gone at least 6.0 innings in five straight starts (6 of 7), striking out 29 batters during that stretch, while walking 9. Perhaps, he’s overdue for a short, rocky outing yes?

At the outset of this series, we pointed out that the Cubs would be fine, so long as they weren’t swept. Well, here we are on the edge of a broom. Let’s see if they can pull some evasive maneuvers.
