This is the worst-case scenario. It’s a total screw-job by the weather and by MLB. But it’s the reality the Cubs now face.
Today’s game against the Nationals was rained out. So, rather than push the game to the end of the season, they are going to force the Cubs to return to Washington on Thursday – their ONE off-day in the preceding 24 days – for a single game. They will play the Brewers for three at Wrigley Field Monday through Wednesday, travel to DC for Thursday, then travel back to Chicago for a weekend series against the Reds.
And, if that’s not bad enough, it means the Cubs won’t get another off-day until September 20.
And, if *that’s* not bad enough, it means the Cubs may very well have to face Max Scherzer AGAIN on Thursday on normal rest.
This will be no inconvenience at all for the Nationals, who are traveling past DC on Thursday anyway. And they aren’t fighting for a playoff spot. For the Cubs? It’s a freaking nightmare of travel crap.
I know, I know. Toughen up. Play the schedule. Blah blah on and on. But this is BS, and it is going to be uniquely difficult for the Cubs, far beyond what other teams have to deal with. I’m pissed.
