I’m so conflicted in my reaction to this one. Well, I mean, it’s all bad – don’t get me wrong – but the way it’s bad is tripping me up.
On the one hand, the Cubs’ bats were once again a joke, failing to do anything of note – save for Willson Contreras thumping one into the wind and off the wall. He strutted so much coming out of the box that he barely made second base.
On the other hand, if Victor Caratini wasn’t screwed out of a hit down the first base line by an umpire who can’t tell if a ball is fair or foul and who also can’t move, the Cubs would have scored at least another run, and possibly more. It’s that time of year when you take whatever wins you can get, however you get them. It sucks that the Cubs didn’t get that run (or more).
But … still …
Good pitching. Good that the Brewers lost. Good that the Cubs took this series. But, in the end, all I can feel in my bones is the slumping, slumping offense. It makes me feel bad.
