In need of additional infield depth capable of playing shortstop with Addison Russell on administrative leave, the Cubs today called up Mike Freeman.

Freeman, 31, has been a AAA utility depth guy for the past four years across four organizations. He handles the bat well enough at AAA, but has never really hit much in the big leagues. He can play defense well enough, though, and the Cubs needed a back-up, back-up in place.
Welcome back to Freeman.
