While still dealing with a persistent left shoulder issue that probably will not clear up until the offseason (hopefully … ), Kris Bryant now has another issue to deal with: he took a pitch off of his left wrist last night. There was no break detected, and it has officially been dubbed a contusion.

Although he didn’t immediately leave the game, and although X-rays were later negative, you knew it was the kind of thing he’d be feeling and could cost him some time.
Unfortunately, there’s not a lot of time left.
After the game, Joe Maddon said he’s planning on Bryant not playing today, and I presume everyone will just hope that the discomfort would be clear by tomorrow. Even at that point, you don’t know what the impact will be on Bryant’s swing (wrists are to hitters like shoulders are to pitchers – the quiet killers), and you don’t know what the combined impact will be with the shoulder issue he’s already fighting.
Suffice to say, on a day that already featured plenty of bad news, this was not something you wanted to see.
