When the Cubs announced the lineup earlier today, I joked about Jason Heyward batting cleanup in a game as important as tonight’s tilt with the Pirates. In reality, of course, Heyward has been a lot better this year than his first two seasons with the Cubs, Ivan Nova is weaker against lefties, and Heyward has some good numbers against Nova for his career. But still, I joked.
Now who’s laughing?

After giving up another early homer to the Pirates (and watching the Brewers take an early lead), my spirits were low, but Heyward lifted them right up with his eighth homer of the season and his first since JULY 24TH! That two-run homer broke a streak of six consecutive games against the Pirates, in which the Cubs scored just 1 or fewer runs.
Now PLEASE hold on for the win Cubs. Or, better yet, score a bunch more first.
