Pre-Gamin’: Pirates at Cubs (7:05 CT) – Lineups, Broadcast Info, Game Thread

Last night, a loss meant the Brewers would take over sole-possession of first place. The same is not true for tonight, because Milwaukee is off (must be nice to have so many off  days at the end of the season). HOWEVA, if the Cubs manage to lose their third contest to the Pirates, there will be a tie atop the NL Central. And while the Brewers would get the terrible, long-eliminated Tigers for their final three games, the Cubs would get the Cardinals, who are still fighting for the second Wild Card slot.

Let’s just say winning tonight is EXTREMELY IMPORTANT.

Fortunately, the Cubs have Jon Lester going and he’s not only been relatively good lately, he has a tendency to play better in big games. Unfortunately, the Pirates have Trevor Williams and he’s …

  • Lasted 6.0 innings or more in 9 of his last 11
  • Allowed 0 earned runs in 4 of his past 5
  • Allowed 1 or fewer earned runs in 10 of his past 12
  • So … yeah.

Before the game, Brett, Luis, my magic shoes and I will be at Brickhouse for Social Media night and then we’ll be sitting out in the bleachers for the game. Come find us. We’ll be the ones nervously biting are finger nails to the bone for oh, say, 3.5 hours.

    Enhanced Box Score: Cubs 3, Diamondbacks 2 – April 15, 2024

Un-be-lievable. That game went from snooze-fest to nail-biter in a HURRY. And I don't think I'm too far off base saying the Cubs got pretty lucky in that one. Not only were they able to tie the game in the...

Andrew McCutchen is an Extremely Elite Person

As NL Central dwellers, we've long known two things about Pittsburgh Pirates outfielder Andrew McCutchen: (1) he's pretty darn good at baseball, and (2) he's an even better person. The latest example of both comes by way of his 300th...

Former Cubs Pitcher Ken Holtzman Has Passed Away
