Well, it may not be the postseason, but it sure feels like the playoffs are starting today, doesn’t it? With a magic number of 3, the Cubs can sweep the Cardinals and head straight to the NLDS. Ideally, however, the Cubs win and Brewers lose today so the Cubs can have an active clinch with a win on the field tomorrow. One step at a time, but you might as well put your dreams out there, right?
Adam Wainwright is starting for the Cardinals today in *what could be* his final start in a Cardinals uniform, according to MLB.com. If the Cubs – of all teams – were to beat him in his final game, it would be very sweet (kinda like Hawk’s last game). I do worry, however, that Wainwright might leave it all out there, so to speak, if it’s really his last game, so hopefully he doesn’t get any sort of adrenaline boost before this afternoon’s first pitch.
Meanwhile, Kyle Hendricks is starting for the Cubs and has been very good throughout the second half of the season. This feels like the most winnable game of the series, so you hope Hendricks has his good stuff working early and often.
Let’s go Cubs!
