Red Sox Up Two, Hyde Not Going to Minnesota, and Other Bullets

All it takes is one daggone mention of ‘Despacito’ in my peripheral receptors and the damn song is stuck in my head for hours. Stupid catchy song …

The Boston Red Sox won again last night, taking a 2-0 World Series advantage over the Los Angeles Dodgers. David Price pitched well, and the Red Sox did what they’ve been doing all postseason, scoring three runs with two outs in the fifth inning, giving them the winning margin. Incredibly, that three-run rally started with two outs and two strikes and no one on base. Watching, I watched Hyun-Jin Ryu just barely not get a strike three call against Christian Vazquez, and I swear to you I thought to myself, “Wouldn’t it be wild if things went sideways from there?” Single, single, walk, walk, single later, and it was a three-run inning. Just seems like every starting pitcher in this postseason gets into trouble in the fifth inning.

Well, except David Price, who went six innings and had his second consecutive strong start this postseason after a career marked by postseason ineffectiveness. The 33-year-old has been a pretty big disappointment relative to his $217 million contract and how good he was before coming to the Red Sox (see, it happens to every big spender!), but it’s not as if he doesn’t still have talent.

Per Jon Heyman, Cubs bench coach Brandon Hyde did not get the Minnesota Twins managerial gig:

As far as we know, Hyde is still a candidate for the Blue Jays and Rangers jobs.

Justin Steele had a good, four-inning outing in the AFL yesterday (1 ER, 4 H, 1 BB, 4 K), and Nico Hoerner and Trent Giambrone continue to hit well of late. And Hoerner continues his very good and mature attitude:
