Although he was brutal last year with the Cardinals after signing very late, Greg Holland was really good with the Nationals to finish out the year. He’s not a guy you’d target right now to come in and be your shutdown closer, but as a bounce-back guy, a year further removed from Tommy John and having made adjustments in the second half with the Nationals? Yeah, I liked him as a low-cost move for the Cubs.
But it seems like Brad Brach might be the Cubs’ primary signing of that nature:
#DBacks in agreement with free-agent reliever Greg Holland on one-year deal, pending physical, sources tell me and @Ken_Rosenthal.

Greg Holland’s deal with Arizona is for $3.5 million with performance bonuses that can double it. @ByRobertMurray, @Ken_Rosenthal and @JonHeyman were on it.

With the DBacks, Holland will have an opportunity to set up Archie Bradley, and maybe become a trade chip at midseason, joining a contender.
